MOSAIC forms the digital framework for hvv switch - the mobility platform of the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (hvv). The background system was developed in-house by HOCHBAHN and combines Hamburg's entire public transport offering with services from third-party providers in a single infrastructure. MOSAIC is much more than just the link between the hvv switch app and mobility services - it is a fundamental building block for Hamburg's mobility transition.

How MOSAIC works

As a Mobility As A Service platform, MOSAIC combines all relevant mobility options in the hvv area. It can be experienced directly in the hvv switch app: all offers are accessible after a one-off registration and selection of the payment method. If a MOIA journey or a Miles car is booked via the hvv switch app, the respective provider manages the request. MOSAIC coordinates the data exchange between the app and the provider. The digital infrastructure works automatically in the background, so travellers don't have to do anything else. In addition to the hvv switch app, the check-in/check-out system hvv any, the new ticket machines (self-service terminals) and ticket control systems as well as hvv prepaid cards also use the central background system.

A seamless travel experience with HOCHBAHN

The digital milestone for hvv switch was laid back in 2018 and the MOSAIC background system was developed by HOCHBAHN specifically for this purpose. MOSAIC is also an important component of the digitalisation strategy and mobility transition in Hamburg. The digital background system for public transport, which is unique in Germany, makes travelling through the hvv area much easier for everyone. The continuous development of MOSAIC is also making an important contribution to the city of Hamburg's climate targets, as it makes the switch to public transport and shared mobility services more convenient than ever.
