All together under one roof
South of the Elbe, life will not be the same in the future. True! Because the ZUSAMMENHUB promises a completely new hub for mobility and many other services in Hamburg's south. Right next to the Veddel S-Bahn station, HOCHBAHN will be building a completely new bus interchange and an electric bus depot in the coming years.
But that's not all: numerous mobility options integrated on the site will ensure even better connections on Veddel and in Wilhelmsburg. In addition to bus and S-Bahn connections, there will be an hvv switch point for car sharing, ridepooling and the StadtRAD, as well as around 600 bike+ride parking spaces.
In addition, commercial areas for shopping and services, long desired by the residents, are planned. This is made possible by a new construction method at the HOCHBAHN bus depot. For the first time, the bus depot will be built as a multi-storey structure with four floors, so that the buses will be "stacked". The space saved is to be used by the residents for daily needs, sports and leisure facilities.
CONCRETELY: WHAT EXACTLY IS PLANNED AT THE ZUSAMMENHUB?
- a bus interchange with six stopping areas
- numerous sharing services such as car sharing and MOIA
- parking facilities for around 600 bicycles
- around 8,000 square metres of commercial space for local supply and business use such as supermarkets, drugstores, restaurants, event space, sports facilities, a hostel, co-working spaces and more
- an electric bus depot of the HOCHBAHN with 160 e-buses
WHAT WILL THE HUB LOOK LIKE LATER?
This question was answered by renowned architectural firms in a Europe-wide design competition. In August 2023, HOCHBAHN presented the winning design by the Cologne-based architectural firm JSWD. More than 200 suggestions from citizens from an online dialogue were incorporated. Particular attention is being paid to the issue of sustainability during construction. Recycled concrete will be used as far as possible. The façade will be made of recycled aluminium, which consumes 95 per cent less energy in production. Photovoltaic systems will be installed on the roofs and green spaces will be created throughout. Rainwater will be collected and fed into the service water cycle. Among other things, this can be used to operate the bus washing system. Waste heat from the e-bus charging system and geothermal energy are used for the heat supply.
